White Wednesday

This week I am joining Kathleen @ Faded Charm for a change of pace. If you have a liking for white, drop by her blog and see who else is linked this week.

I thought the telephone table with the open shelving was a delightful way to utilise a small area of wall space that might otherwise be left quite bare. I also quite like the French country feel to the kitchen below.

I quite enjoy perusing pictures of crisp of white rooms in glossy decorating magazines, they look peaceful and calm; almost angelic. Some all white rooms can also look quite clinical, however just adding a touch of colour here and there can add warmth to it and make much more inviting.

I must admit I have lots of colour in my own home.

Tutorial: Beautiful Noses

I have been changing a few things around on my website today and have added a new tutorials section which will be updated on a regular basis.

The first one, which was originally written by me for Australian Bear Creations, gives details of how to achieve a beautifully embroidered teddy bear nose like the one shown here on Ginger Gorgeous.

I you wish to view the tutorial please click here.

Happy sewing!

Sunday Snippet

Five year old Malcolm was a lovable, talkative little boy. He seemed to have boundless energy from morning till night, and there were times when he almost exhausted his devoted parents.

One afternoon a kindly minister ... a friend of the family ... called at the house. After a short while he brought Malcolm into the general conversation. "Tell me, do you say your prayers every night?"

Malcolm stared at the carpet. "Not every night."

"Indeed! And why is that?" asked the minister, his eyes twinkling.

The boy looked up and smiled. "Daddy says them for me. When he carries me upstairs he often says - "Well, thank God you'll soon be fast asleep and the house will be quiet." Malcolm paused, "And then I say 'Amen'."

Thought for the Day

If life is like a flowing stream
We cross from day to day,
We're sure to find some stepping-stones
To guide us on our way;
And if each helps the other one,
The crossing can be lots of fun.

REDnesday!

With Valentine's day just over a week away, and whether your sweetheart will send you a single RED rose, a dozen or two dozen, I thought I would share some thoughts on RED roses with you today.

The poignancy and simplicity of a single RED rose is indicative of true love and literally means “I love you”.

The meaning of No.12: Thinking of you 12 months a year.

During the Victorian Era, the practice of flower giving took on an added dimension with the advent of the Language of Flowers. This elaborate conception associated a different meaning to all manner of flowers, including roses. Many of the meanings we attribute to different colors and numbers of roses survive from this period. One of the most significant is the use of one dozen RED roses as a declaration of love.

The number twelve is often used to represent a complete cycle, such as the 12 months in the year, the 12 hours on the clock or the 12 signs of the zodiac. In fact, cultures around the world from ancient to modern times have developed calendars based on cycles of twelve. The recurrence of the number twelve across the natural and spiritual world has given it a sacred and mystical quality which is universal.

The meaning of RED Roses: Love and Romance

RED roses continue to be the most popular way to say "I love you" to someone special. They are the definitive symbol for romantic sentiments, representing true love, and they are perfect for expressing feelings for a loved one on Valentine's Day, an anniversary or simply "just because."

Sue has been a wonderful hostess of REDnesday for quite some time now and I would like to dedicate all the roses above to her for doing such a terrific job of pulling this together every week. Please pop over to Sue's - It's a Very Cherry World and see what the other participants have to show you this week.

However, this last one ... this very special single rose with a very handsome and distinguished attachment to it, has been saved especially for me ... and no, you cannot have him, he's all mine!

Happy REDnesday everyone!!
